2019 Hofgut Falkenstein Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Spätlese feinherb "Onkel Peter" #4 - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (12/14/2020)
There’s something about feinherb, and the balance of delicate sweetness and Riesling acidity that is achieved by producers working in this mode. The 2019 Falkenstein Spätlese Feinherb has a delicate touch that provides immense flavor impact. It’s surprisingly round in palate expression, given the early comments on the acid profile of the vintage. Fruit is more in the yellow/orange rather than the expected Saar-typical green spectrum, but it’s still bright, and crystal clear. Persistent and consistent through the mid-palate, it falls off just a touch on the finish. The center is strong though, so a little (or even a lot) of cellar time can fill out the profile. Excellent value, no matter how you look at it. Glad to have more.
