WTN: Domaine du Pegau Chateuneuf du Pape Cuvée Reservée 2006

Lockdown Wine # 70. Turning brown at the edge. Ripe, ripe black fruit - plum, fig, jam, asphalt, touch of oaky vanilla. Sweet, "gobs of fruit" as Parker would say. So inviting. The sweetness is tempered by a subtle acidity. Rich, juicy, soft tannins make it very easy to drink. The 14% alcohol is not a problem - you don't notice any heat at all. Very well balanced. Just starting to enter its peak. Slight woody note at the finish. Not especially long, but more than decent. Very hard to stop drinking this. I normally drink, at most, a half bottle at a time, but I don't think I would have a problem finishing a whole bottle of this. This has enough stuffing to go up against a spicy mergueze sausage. Popped and poured. Drink with pleasure now, but will surely get more complex with time.

Big fan of this vintage of Pegau. Now I just need to make the right food.

Have you tried the 2007? How does it compare?

I have not tried the 2007 Pegau. I did not buy it. The 2007s I have tried (Donjon, Clos des Papes, Cailloux) have all shown a roasted profile that I do not care for.
