WTN: Two Forlorn-Hope Reds.....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Oct 28, 2020 2:30 pm

Tried these two from my recent F-H shipment over the last few days:
1. Forlorn-Hope Sogni della Specia Sangiovese SolanoCnty (12.04%; 47 cs) Fairfield 2013: Med.color; strong cherry/Sangio/earthy bit smokey/toasty/oak rather fragrant very Calif-like slight earthy/dusty/SolanoCnty bit floral/violets/cherry blossom lovely nose; fairly tart/tangy rather sinewey/tannic strong bright/cherry/Sangio some earthy/dusty bit rough/rustic very interesting flavor w/ modest brisk tannins; very long tart/tangy/earthy/dusty/rustic some bright/cherry/Sangio bit smokey/oak finish w/ light tannins; a bit on the rustic side but an interesting expression of Calif Sangio; more like a Montepulciano than Chianti but much more Calif than Italian. $42.00

2. Forlorn-Hope mataro papi Mataro RorickHeritageVnyd/CalaverasCnty/SierraFoothills (12.16%) Murphys 2018: Med.light color; quite earthy/loamy/dusty/Kansas root cellar fairly plummy/Mourv rather rustic light smokey/oak some complex rather interesting nose; somewhat tart/tangy rather earthy/loamy fairly strong Mourv/plummy light smokey/oak flavor w/ light tangy tannins; very long quite tart/tangy light-bodied strong Mourv/plummy quite earthy/loamy finish w/ light tannins;not as rich/lush/round as Evanghelo Mataro and on the light-bodied side; more of a rustic glou-glou wine than a serious Mataro; interesting expression of Mourv. $34.00
