It was the BR Cohn Trestle Glen Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, that I chose to open. The nose is intriguing, effusing notes of anise and licorice. On the palate, the flavors develop into radiant, unrestrained red and black fruit, with silky tannins and a medium body. While I really like its fruit as well as its clarity, the wine is better for sipping than as an accompaniment to food. For it to merge with food it would require a base layer of earthiness or bolder and fuller tannins to mediate between the redolent fruit and the dish. As is, it is pleasurable on its own.
