Hi Harry,
Almost a month has elapsed since the holiday, so my memory is sketchy.
The shul hosts one of the holiday meals, and I brought a couple of bottles to share with friends. The first bottle was the Hagafen Cuvee' de Noir Sparkling wine 2007. The wine displays a marvelous synergy between it bright strawberry and the yeast derived flavors of brioche and toasted bread. I followed that with the Matar Chardonnay 2014, that featured an array of summer fruit on a nice expansive body. For reds, I shared a Prix Hagafen Cabernet Sauvignon 2002. The wine is slightly bricking at the edges and is beginning to show nice secondary flavors. The red and black fruit is overlaid with licorice, and buttressed by velvety tannins. Finally, I had a bottle of the Flam Reserve Merlot 2011. Every bit of the powerful fruit is needed to tame to the alcohol, and the result is pleasing.
If I'm not mistaken, at one of the other meals I had another bottle from Flam, this one was the Syrah Reserve 2013. The Syrah, was bold and beautiful. With fresh jammy fruit that was complemented by potent pepper.
Best Regards,
