I had my third bottle of this tonight.
Oh dear what a great wine! Took it to Twist Bistro (California-French in Campbell) & had it with their prix fixe special – vegetarian onion soup, hanger steak, cheeses. Dark purple, opaque, powerful, moderate tannins, increases in depth as it crosses the palate, at least half an hour of length. As good with cheese as with steak.
Back in June: Dark purple, opaque, powerful, strong tannins. Long. Will, I think, be long-lived. A good fit with short ribs.
in September '08: Black pepper, tannins still strong, inky color, pleasant winy ripeness under it all. Very even across the palate, no feeling of heat, moderately long finish. Made for lamb chops and that's what I paired it with.
The development is obvious. I'm going to see if I can get a couple more and write "HOLD" on them. It's still pretty young and primary.
Not cheap: First bottle was $34 in 10/07, second $36 in 10/08, and tonight's $38, all at the winery. 14.5% alcohol, Dry Creek Valley, Palindrome Vineyard.
