On the strength of its good QPR performance in previous vintages, I bought three bottles of Château Nodoz – Côtes de Bourg – 2005 – Alc. 13.5% - (c.€8), made from Merlot 60%, CabSauv 35%, CabFranc 5%; this 2005 showed notes of tangy red fruit, minerals and wet leather but was disconcertingly lean on the palate with angular tannins. I wonder if the better fruit is not now going into a prestige Cuvée Bois where it is probably spoiled by the wood; I will leave the two remaining bottles a couple of years in the not very confident hope that the wine will acquire more roundness of body; 14/20.
