Pickles

by Larry Greenly » Thu Mar 11, 2021 8:13 pm

I'm a real fan of Indian mixed pickles. Weird taste, some heat, and rather salty. Found some really big jars of them in a local Indian spice store. Anyone else?

I like them as a condiment at Indian restaurants, Larry. but not really enough to buy a big jar. We've got quite a few big Indian groceries around here, though, so I'm sure I could get a jar if I wanted one.

I really love a local brand of spicy peppers called Habagardil (HABanero, GARlic and DILl), though. Lots of local restaurants use them.

I like a dab of achar on the side of a South Indian meal, which is the way they are intended to be eaten. A little goes a long way. Lime pickle is my favorite.

Lime and mango pickle are my favorites. I ADORE them. Not only as a condiment, though that, but also as a seasoning: I'll scoop it into a stir fry of ground turkey and cabbage to stuff inside a folded naan. Really delish. Bob hates it, though--calls it "Janitor in a Drum".

I like the mixed pickles. The one I have now contains mangoes, carrots, green chiles, and lemons. Shan is the brand, and a 1 kg. container cost only $5. May or may not buy another version next time.
