1980 Wine List from MGM Grand, Reno

This is a scan of the winelist from the MGM Grand in Reno. We went to the USA most years in the mid 70's to mid 80's, my partner was working for a US company nad we lived some time on both Pennslyania and California.

The Revision dates of the menu of 5/80 and 4/80 on the accompanying showguide "Donn Ardens' "Hello Hollywood, Hello" places it in mid 1980, 4 years after the 'Judgement of Paris.'

I take it that "Jaboulet-Vercherre" is some big negociant house?

The prices look astronomical* to me - does it say "$32" for a "Vintage" Pouilly Fuisse?

Here's a good historical price-comparison generator:

Those prices are quite high, accounting for inflation. Also fascinating that "vintage" was considered enough of a specification. How tastes change.

I love these old menus, thanks for posting.

Ya gotta figure that Mateus/Lancers markup was about 600%.

Jaboulet-Vercherre is a big negociant, with mostly crappy products in my experience. The family I believe is also known as major supporters of the Front National, with one member the FN candidate for Burgundy. That prompted some to call for boycotting their products, while I'd not want to support Le Pin, since I never buy their stuff anyway its a meaningless boycott for me.

And I never buy Ch. Le Pin for the same reason, Dale.
