Earlier in the week I posted on a wine I unearthed in the cellar of my girlfriend's parents and tonight we got around to drinking the 1992 Hans Wirsching Iphöfer Kronsberg Riesling Spätlese Trocken which was far from dead (as I feared) but instead has plenty of grip, plenty of mature sour verdant yet golden riesling fruit. Never quite turns the corner into complexity but is a very civilized drink and well worth drinking.
Funnily enough, I the American was the only one to actually brave the bottle while the rest of the Germans in the room (girlfriend's parents included) preferred a neutral 2005 weissburgunder. Go figure.
