Abruzzi. Terre di Chieti.
I will state from the outset that I didn't like this wine at the time. With hindsight I now will admit that it is an okay wine, just lacking in any trueness to Sangiovese IMHO. When we first tried it I had paired it against my wife's famous (in our house, anyway) spaghetti meat sauce and it really didn't work well, since I had been expecting a more traditional Sangiovese. Anyway, on to the WTN.
Dark purple color.
Some earthiness on the nose.
Rich and thick, fleshy cherry fruit, rather grapey and sweet, jammy, very ripe, chocolate, just a hint of bitterness, lacking in an acidic backbone. A rather simple, fruit forward lush wine that would, I am sure, work much better with hamburgers or some other BBQ meats. Just didn't work with spaghetti.
