Crusault: Is this a grape variety?

by Gary Barlettano » Fri Jul 27, 2007 11:29 am

I was reading the tech notes on a particular rosé blend and came across Crusault as one of the grapes in that blend. I googled it and only found references back to that same tech sheet and to a genealogy. I also checked the Winegrape Glossary with no results. Since Mourvèdre was spelled incorrectly in the same line (no "r"), I'll take a WAG that they might have meant Cinsault, but, since my Cheeerios didn't come with a heapin' helpin' of omniscience this morning, I am asking: Is Crusault a grape?
And now what?

I thought it was the name of the stuff rowers take while sweating on the waters...

Mystery solved. Yeah, it's Cinsault as our own Mr. May pointed out at another spot in their website where the same wine is described. They even have Mourvèdre correct there, too.

The alternate definitions presented here are thought-provoking indeed. <cough>
And now what?
