Bar Exam

by Lizbeth S » Tue Jul 24, 2007 6:35 pm

Day 1 of essays (PA) down, 1 more day of essays (NJ this time), and a day of the national test (multiple choice thank goodness) to go! So what do you think I should open on Thursday night when this whole process is finally over? I'm taking any and all suggestions (but I am in PA which may limit my choices a bit)! :D

Liz, I would recommend a big ribeye done to perfection, a baked potato done however you like them, and a chateaunuef du Pape with a few years of age. Wish I could supply the wine as a gift. Congratulations in advance.

I remember back 15 :!: years or so when I took the CPA exam. I unwound with a weekend at deer camp with plenty of fried venison tenderloin, potatoes and onions, and a few six-packs of Dos Equis Amber. Also the rest of a 24-pack of Goody headache powders, as I tried to shake the migraine that set in midway thru the first session on Wednesday afternoon.

So whatever you do to celebrate, I'll raise a toast in your honor as comrades-in-arms!

My bar exam was 28 years ago. During the first day lunch break I went out into a courtyard to clear my head. I was looking at a sundial and noticed that it had a legend that read: I only count the sunny days.

My first thought was that it was an unsuccessful waiver of the Warranty of Fitness for a Particular Purpose. The bar exam can really get in your head.

After the bar I went out with friends and drank quite a bit of cheap Chianti. I don't say this often, but quantity is probably more important than quality.

Good luck.

Lizbeth -

My only experience with this was when my best friend finished his bar exam about twenty years ago. He hosted a big party for all of his buddies from law school who had taken it along with everyone else he knew. I can't remember everything that was there, but there was a pitcher of a vaguely Mai Tai related punch that was very dangerous.

Future lawyers were literally crawling out from the bushes in front of his house the next morning.

Personally, though, I'd probably go with Bob's suggestion of a nice CdP.

Best wishes on your test!

It's a long time ago (41 years) but I seem to remember that what I needed after 2 1/2 days of the Michigan Bar Exam of 1966 was sleep, not wine. But if you were more prepared in advance than I was, and didn't have to stay up every night cramming, then I would say go with your best of the wine type you like best. For me, that would be a CdP with 10 years or more of age on it. Or maybe an aged Mosel Riesling, or Barolo, or Pauillac. But whatever, it would be a wine for contemplation, not hedonistic pleasure, just to let some new thoughts push all those "how badly did I do" thoughts away, if only momentarily.
Good luck on your legal career. I hope you find it as rewarding as I have.

Well, I just saw elsewhere a note about the PLCB having a good assortment of Edmunds St John, including the '03 Bassetti Syrah. At top of list of American Syrahs to me, and sadly coming to an end (2005 is last, as Bassetti is keeping the fruit for his own bottling). I haven't had the '03 yet, but based on '01 it would be most enjoyable infanticide.

Good luck, and congratulations on law school!

Dale, I did not know that the 2005 Bassetti would be the last vintage for this wine. Steve assured me that it would (he didn't say it but..) outlive me. He did say that it would easily go 20-30 years and I am almost 69 years old, so it computes. I guess I better go see if I can get a 6-pack of the 2003.
