Maipo Valley.
A blend of Syrah (90 per cent) and Cabernet Sauvignon, although this information doesn't appear anywhere on the label. I obtained it from the winery web site.
Very dark purple in the glass.
Sweet, spicy nose, with a drying-woody note as well.
Firm and very dry, quite tangy and very peppery, fairly fleshy black cherry fruit, dark chocolate, with a piercing greeness-bitterness that is difficult to ignore, particularly on the finish.
With time, the green-bitterness calmed down somewhat and the wine did broaden, but the harshness never went away.
Very hard-harsh, drying and woody on the finish.
I wasn't terribly surprised by the greeness, as this is what I have come to expect over the years from this winery. However, this bottling got some fairly good reviews by local wine writers so I decided to try it. A wine to avoid.
Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).
