WTN: Mas Des Bressades "Cuvee Excellence" 2005

A 100 per cent Syrah from Costières de Nîmes.

Good deep red color.

Smoky, sweet fruit, forest floor and leather on the nose.

Rich and intense, earthy, tangy acidity, leather, fairly fleshy black cherry and raspberry, very smoky, red licorice, very spicy, peppery and lightly perfumed-foral. The wine showed a bit of roughness-alcohol heat toward the end.

A drying finish.

I have tried and enjoyed this wine over several vintages. While I enjoyed the 2005, I found it a little less accessible and soft. Perhaps some short term aging will remedy that.

Purchased at $16.95 (Canadian).
