2002 Domaine Marc Kreydenweiss Gewürztraminer Kritt - France, Alsace, Eichhoffen (5/4/2006)
A pleasant, well-mannered Gewurztraminer. It shows all the classic aromas (rose, lychee, pineapple), but it's not overpowering in the mouth, and it's not too sweet. With air time it gains some body, and it is quite drinkable. We had it with a subtly marinated chicken, and it did not overpower the food at all, but complemented it. Good stuff, especially for the $20 or so it cost me. (88 pts.)

I'm a fan of the Kreydenweiss, David. Each one I have makes me more of a fan. I'm especially fond of their Vendange Tardives.

The Kreydenweiss style favors subtlety, elegance over power, and the purity of fruit that I enjoy in a wine. They don't always blow you away with bravado, but they do seem to satisfy and stay in your memory, when some of the blockbustery producers don't.
