WTN: Sweet summer

by Håvard Flatland » Thu Jul 19, 2007 2:43 pm

Not exactely summer here up north. Rain, wind and 7-12 degrees Celsius..

But that's no reason not to pour down some sweet stuff.

Ganz á Siassa Schilcher Beerenauslese 2005, Strohmeier. Weststeiermark, Austria.

Half bottle 239NOK/$41, 10% alc.

Pink orange color and very thick.
On the nose there is tart apples, some botrytis and a mineral character.
Fresh sweet wine with lovely acidity! Doesn't feel like a beerenauslese.
Long aftertaste with emphasis on apricot and quince. Great wine.

Dr Loosen Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Beerenauslese 1995.

Half bottle 246NOK/$42, 7% alc.

Golden yellow color. Viscous.
Raisins, ripe peach, yellow plums, butter, green herbs and some mineral on the nose.
Palate: ripe mango, yellow apples, peach and a little botrytis. Creamy smooth texture. Sweet wine with fresh acidity.
