Rioja.
Am informed that the "Elaboracion Especial" on the label refers to the fact that the Tempranillo grape juice is actually fermented in the barrel.
Dill and other (unidentifiable) herbs on the nose, along with a healthy dollop of vanilla and caramel.
Moderate weight, very tangy, smoky, tangy cherry fruit, sweet vanilla and caramel, chocolate, rather floral-perfumed, peppery. With lots of "air time" the wine became quite tangy and rather sharp.
A tiny amount of sediment collected in the bottom of the last glass, which I regarded as rather unusual in a wine this young.
A very long finish, tangy at first, but shifting to sweet oak-influenced fruit.
Purchased at $17.95 (Canadian).
Matched rather well with BBQ ribs.
