Greetings all from the Gang of Pour! We’ve added some new writers and a whole lot of new content since the last time we filed one of these reports, and thought we’d fill you all in on what’s been happening with us lately.
First of all, we have a new man on the Left Coast, Mr. Bennett Traub. Bennett’s latest report is titled Paso Robles’ Grand Crus: James Berry Vineyard & Saxum. In it, he gives us a rundown on the vineyards, the winery, Justin Smith and provides comprehensive notes from a recent tasting in which everything that Saxum has thus far produced was poured and evaluated. We think it’s an excellent offering from Bennett and we’re excited to have him on board.
Closer to home, we have a serious bubblehead in the fold in the person of Brad Baker. Brad covers all things bubbly (and more) for us, and has been a BADD influence on me, because now I just want to drink Champagne and sparkling wine all the time! Brad doesn’t pull his punches (the folks at Veuve Clicquot invited him to pay a visit during a just-completed trip to France after reading some less-than-complimentary remarks of his regarding their wines; can’t wait to read about THAT), but you’ll find very little in the way of negatives in his latest report on Gloria Ferrer, his favorite non-Champagne sparkling wine producer in the world.
Our old partner-in-crime, Alan Kerr is still with us as well, covering the Ontario and Canada wine scenes, with monthly updates on the latest LCBO releases and other enticing tidbits from that part of the hemisphere.
You’ll also find notes on some excellent Châteauneuf du Pape (Vieux Télégraphe & Bois de Boursan) and Crozes Hermitage (Graillot) in my requiem for the Red Wings’ (& Red Rhônes) playoff demise. (Quack whilst you can, Ducks’ fans; they’ll be needing Aflac soon with the likes of Bertuzzi joining the team.)
And don’t forget, folks, if you want to know the ins-and-outs of making great wine vinegar, Kim Adams' how-to pages are still receiving brisk traffic; some good information just never goes out of date. You can find all this and more at the old Same place, Gang of Pour.
