A couple very nice wines sampled this evening in anticipation of the 4th. Happy birthday, America! A peaceful and joyous day to all of you.
2000 Landmark Chardonnay, Lorenzo Vineyard, RRV 7/3/2007 Bright golden to a pale yellow edge. Broad creamy vanillin oak and bright lemon citrus fruit, austere mineral tones and wet stone on the nose. Soft, creamy entry to a focused center of bright lemon chiffon fruit, soft well-resolved oak at the edges, lean minerality and fine, delicate balance with plump malic acidity lightly laced with citrus, moderate finish is ever so light and fades slowly. Delightful.
1997 Littorai Pinot Noir, Savoy Vineyard, Anderson Valley 7/3/07 Bright medium garnet to a red-orange edge. Rounded black cherry fruit, dash of pomengranate, wild game and Asian spice on the well-polished nose. Supple, palpable entry to a center of dried red berry and red cherry fruit, quite Burgundian in style with dark earth, mineral and sauvage elements, then a light dusting of white pepper and Asian spice, moderate finish with just a bit of roughness. Opening in the glass to a black fruit/chocolate profile with an hour’s airing.
