Chateau Coulac Sainte-Croix-du-Mont 1986 13% ABV
I found a half-filled bottle of this in my fridge the day after NiagaraCOOL. During an impromptu chat session with James Roscoe, he informed that he thought Bruce Hayes had brought it. From what I've heard, this is a satellite appellation of Sauternes and the wine is in that style. Deep golden color and very viscous, with many legs forming slowly. Honeydew melons and something tropical (guava?) on the nose. While there is quite a bit of residual sugar, it is not overly sweet and balanced with a nutty, almost burnt earthiness. Very enjoyable. I enjoyed this with some leftover cheese.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

Bruce and Robin, didn't we think this wine was oxydized? Maybe it just needed to sit for a while. I never returned to it as there were too many other wines. It seems as if we lost out!
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind

Interesting to hear your observations Howie. I am so glad that somebody got to finish it up and that it didn't just get dumped.

Yes, James, I did think it was a bit oxidized. It was quite sherry-like, but still an interesting drink (along with the dozens of other interesting drinks on offer that day).
