WTN: 2005 Prieure de Montezargues Tavel

by ClarkDGigHbr » Sun Jun 24, 2007 7:29 pm

I bought this bottle of 2005 Prieure de Montezargues Tavel Rosé wine (13.5% ABV, $18 ) a few months ago, and just got around to tasting it with some out-of-town friends. It is a blend of 55% Grenache, 30% Cinsault and 15% Clairette, and is on the darker side of the Rosé color scale. Lovely aromas of flowers and fruit; one of the ladies detected pomegranate. Crisp and refreshing with a lovely finish and well-balanced acidity. Some sensation of sweetness.

I just had the 2006 which was fantastic for a big Rose. I understand Prieure de Montezargues to be a Tavel only house owned by Henriot. Quality is clearly a priority as is price. At $23 it weighs in at a few bucks less than Mordoree, the current Tavel champ which is rather scarce these days.
