WTN: '06 Raffault Chinon Rosé, '05 Tete Juliénas

by Bill Buitenhuys » Fri Jun 22, 2007 8:13 pm

2006 JM Raffault Chinon Rosé (Loire) Now this is fun! Vibrant black cherry, tobacco and floral notes with a peppery, citrus finish. Thoroughly enjoyable fruit with good overall structure. Extremely slurpable, goes well with macaroni w/red sauce or by itself.

2005 Domaine du Clos du Fief (Michel Tete) Juliénas (Beaujolais) Freakin’ wonderful. Ripe fruit, ripe tannins (and lots of em), earthiness, wonderful balance, excellent structure, and a persistently yummy tart finish. This wine makes me smile.

I got a couple of bottles of this after CSW told me that they were sold out of the Vissoux VV, a wine that we loved. Agreed about the general yuminess, though in a knokdown-drag out with Brun's L'Ancien, I think I'd take the latter by a whisker.

I know it's heresy but I've yet to crack open any of my '05 l'Ancien.

Bob,
The Raffault was $15 and the Tete was $16.
