WTN: The Worlds most expensive Pinot Blanc?

by Bill Hooper » Mon Jun 18, 2007 11:53 pm

Mario Schiopetto 2004 Pinot Bianco -Collio, Italia
Ripe and fragrant with white peach and lemon zest aromas. Mineral packed and coated with armour with a thunderbolt finish. The firmness is rather startling. It's almost sinewy without a trace of flabbiness. While I've had some pretty inspired Pinot Blanc from Alsace (which at it's best comes off as Cote de Beaune like) I've never quite come across the likes of this. This is not your fathers neutral quaffer. Very scary and very good. 13% alc. $37

I love Northeastern Italian whites!

Bill,
I had the '01 about 2 weeks ago(my last bottle) and it was delicious. You are correct, a lot to pay for a Pinot Blanc but a really great producer and great drink. Wonder why Joe thinks you are so brave? Maybe he doesn't come out of Spain.
