Overall, a very nice effort from the oft-maligned 1998 vintage. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact this winery did not produce a "reserve" bottling in this vintages.
A lighter bodied wine than most of the other KLs I've tasted, but that was probably a good thing given that the 90+ degree weather we've been experiencing isn't exactly made for sipping Cab. The usual array of black and red fruits balanced by cassis and a hint of tobacco. Judicious oak. Integrated tannins. Finishes nicely. Balanced/non-hedonistic and a good match with grilled heifer. It should hold for a few years yet, but I doubt it will improve/develop. Enjoy!
