1997 Ravenswood Zinfandel Old Hill - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley (6/16/2007)
Initially somewhat volitile, this settled down nicely, with plenty of dark berry fruit and good balancing acidity. Very good with my grilled duck. I would drink this wine up over the next 2 years or so, as the voltility might take over.

Sounds pretty nice for a 10 year old. Did you taste it when it was young? I loved the way a lot of the early 90s Zins aged but as they kept getting bigger and bigger (18% alch) I stopped buying. I can get prune juice much cheaper...and I think prune juice ages better too.

Old Hill needs 8-10 years to come around. The vineyard was planted in the 1880s and the yield is only ton or so per acre, thus the lofty price for the finished wine.

This is not a high octane zin. I loved the lush fruit when young & it's still very well balanced. Drank well night two as well. Alcohol in the mid to upper 14s.
