I'd like some comments on Thorn Tree (South Africa) sauvignon blanc '03.

I wish I could comment Larry, I haven't had the wine, but I can bump your thread back to the top.

Larry,

I've never come across it, but thats not surprising as ThornTree apparently a brand aimed at US supermarkets where its been very successful. Owner/winemaker is Andre Badenhorst, previously wine director at Constantia Uitsig winery

Platter 2004 says "3.5 stars - Med bodied, daintliy fresh from Paarl, Darling, poised fig/fresh asparagus array; deliciously long finish, Easy yet characterful. 12.9%alc"

Personally, I wouldn't buy as I think 2003 is a bit too old for a supermarket SB

Thanks for your comments. I may try one bottle. The store is closing it out at $3.99/bottle, which makes it kind of hard to resist. The same store is selling Meridian cab sav at $2.99/bottle with a coupon (normally $10.99). Hard to resist. It's as cheap as two-buck Chuck here (actually, three-buck Chuck in NM).
