Nota Bene: Black Hills Winery, British Columbia

by Bob Macdonald » Thu Jun 14, 2007 12:00 pm

I am wondering if any of the posters from BC or northern Washington State have any comments or recommendations concerning the cellaring potential or lack of same for this Okanagan red?

I have bottles from their first vintage, '99 I think up to and including 2005 which was delivered a couple of months ago.

Some of the earlier vintages which I have recently tried are quite "funky". Fairly "green", stemmy and vegetal which probably should not be surprising as there was a fair percentage of Cabernet Franc.

It has always been a wine that needs "rough" decanting and some times the "funkiness" can blow off but more recently it has persisted.

I may have waited too long.

You didn't wait too long. Check out this TN on a 2001--and remember that it's owner passively stores all his wine in an unairconditioned apartment.

The "cut and paste" process rather than the hyperlink worked just fine.

I will probably open another bottle depending what I cook up over the week-end.

Thank you for your assistance.

Actually, Bob's an old forum friend. He just wandered off while we were building this new place. Hope he stays closer this time--Bob, nice to see you again.
