Wines to Drink at Home

Nothing fancy, but wines that give an awful lot of pleasure at my dinner table.

2002 Chandon de Briailles Savigny les Beaune Aux Fourneaux
For the first few hours this is a lovely crisp floral fragrant wine that sends me into reveries with the nose and matches very well with a cheesy polenta dish that smooths out the edges. However, after hours 3 or 4 it starts to put on even more flesh and become downright seductive and spicy, causing me to delay my bedtime and enjoy a few more glasses. Mmm.

2002 Chandon de Briailles Pernand Vergelesses Ile des Vergelesses
Rounder and riper than above, although still with good crisp minerality. This is a more composed wine with succulent fruit and elegant tannins framing everything. With air the positive evolution here is that the jammy fruit becomes streamlined and the herbal earthy mineral notes are more prominent. Wish I had more because this was time well spent.

2006 Maximin Grunhauser Abtsberg Spatlese
This is a robust spatlese with all kinds of rich spicy fruit balling around the tongue but then the lovely shining mineral crystals that make the crowd stand up and cheer for more. Goes great with new friends and old friends.
