A smashing cheapy! Light as water. The nose is fresh, intensely mineral with white flowers and some of the typical pear character - though it gladly isn't as full on as with most Proseccos. The mousse is ok - I'm not expecting extreme elegance from such a cheap wine. The palate is very fine indeed: very dry, very savoury and very mineral, fine acidity but with enough fruit to keep it from becoming tart. At under 10 euros, this rocks! - N.V. Gonzalez-Byass Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Palo Cortado Apostoles - Spain, Andalucía, Jerez-Xérès-Sherry (8/17/2005)
20% abv Brown, amber colour. The scent has the typical "rancio" aromas of oxidation, nuts, citrus fruit peels, chalk and a hint of caramel. The palate is deceptively smooth and chalky, but on the mid-palate the acidity becomes very prominent. Despite the 40 g/l residual sugar, the wine tastes almost dry. Incredibly long, intense and toffeeish aftertaste. Excellent.
