Rapel Valley, Peumo Vineyard.
Decanted about an hour before the meal.
Black. Total blackness in the glass, sucking in all surrounding light. I couldn't see the sun through the wine when I held the glass up. Left a thick, rosy like film on the side of the decanter and glass.
Very green and woody nose at first. With time it revealed chocolate-mocha and cherries.
As with the nose, the wine was bitter and quite hard at first, but still showed good weight and thickness and just a hint of mocha. With time, it opened up a great deal showing leather, cherry fruit, violets, red licorice, charred wood.
The fruit actually became quite fleshy with time and the wine, once hard and bitter, became almost gulpable.
It goes without saying that I won't be trying a second bottle for a year to 18 months.
Purchased at $18.95 (Canadian).
