Three wines consumed with dinner:
1998 Muller-Catoir Haardter Mandelring Scheurebe Spatlese
The prior bottle of this (consumed 3/2007) was accurately described by Thor Iverson as "produce aisle soda", but this is anything but. Effusively tropical, moderately sweet, this was a proper companion to an encore presentation of my spinach salad with blue cheese and candied pecans.
2005 St. Innocent Pinot Noir 'Villages Cuvee'
Served with Copper River Salmon, this showed proper pinosity, and fine balance. Red fruit, earth and good acid balance made for a fine partner with pieces of the salmon that were not too heavily dosed with the spice rub.
For the pieces that were too heavily dosed with the spice rub we had:
2005 Rosenblum Zinfandel Richard Sauret Vineyard
Asonishingly well balanced for a wine with 15.9% alcohol, this was indeed ripe and effusively fruity, but made a fine partner for what seemed like sweet cajun salmon. Good stuff, even if it isn't my style of wine.
