WTN: 2004 Jean-Paul Brun Terres Dorees L’Ancien VV

2004 Jean-Paul Brun Terres Dorees Beaujolais L’Ancien Vieilles Vignes I haven’t had this wine for over a year and time has been very good to it. The nose is much more explosive and tannins nicely integrated while the sour cherry flavors, chalky minerals, and lip-smacking, extremely brisk acidity cause much slurping during dinner. I’m glad I stumbled upon a shop with a short supply of these left because I had finished my original buy long ago.

Wm.,
I opened a bottle of this last week and didn't enjoy it quite as much as you did. Perhaps there is some bottle variation going on, but my bottle seemed soft (lacking structure) and finished rather abruptly. In the wine's defense, I served it with a meal that probably overwhelmed it just a bit. I have one more in the cellar that I'll open this summer/fall and I hope that experience mirrors yours.
Thanks for the note.
Wm.

Bill, I was really impressed with how the nose has developed. And I do agree that that tannic structure is lacking at this point, but I didnt mind that really as the acidity and flavor make it a perfect food wine given the right dishes. I had it with an orzo primavera done risotto-style and Lill and I almost finished off a bottle, something we rarely do during the week. I usually prefer Brun with a bit of a chill on it (20mins in the fridge) too.
