WTN: 1982 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Bordeaux Blend Bordeaux France. I've been hesitating to post this note from last Easter, but I'm cleaning up my hand written notes, and tonight's the night.
This has long been Janet's favorite wine -- "Don't you dare take anymore of this wine to an offline, Bob." This from one of the most generous people I know. She's based her opinion on over a dozen examples over the years.
We had anticipated a great meal; my brisket turned out brilliantly, and David's special potato scallops, sublime. But the wine was only ordinary.
The bottle was pristine, the provenance impeccable, the color and hue superb with just a touch of bricking. But -- the aroma which used to leap out of the glass was restrained, not corked, not flawed, just a rather ordinary fruit and spice aroma and taste, still that long, long finish, but single note and just a tad boring. I'll put it down to bottle variation. 3*.
[But just in case, if you have more than a bottle in the cellar, you might want to check it out. Fading fast, if this wasn't just an odd ball bottle.] 3*.
Regards, Bob
