2005 François Chidaine Montlouis Clos Habert(Loire) Smoky, waxy, lemon oil with lots of rich sweet fruit. A wonderfully balancing lemon cream acidity breaks through as soon as I was thinking this might be a bit soft, and ends with an extremely long, lip-smacking finish. Very good, although very young, chenin with a long life ahead.
The development over the course of 3 hours last night was really nice, Rahsaan. There was quite a bit more of a mineral core after it was open for a while and there was more of that wooliness in the mid-palate.
I still have one glass left stoppered up in the fridge to try later tonight. I have 2 bottles left and I think I'm going to grab a few more so I can do a side by side comparison with Chidaine's '05 Clos Baudoin Vouvray before letting them both rest for a while.
