25th May - Argentina's National Day. What are you drinking?

Not much choice in NZ but I've discovered a tasty Malbec called Chanarmuyo from the La Rioja region, 1720 metres above sea level. Looks quite a modern operation from the website - http://www.chanarmuyo.com.ar .
The wine tastes modern too. It's deep, inky purple crimson with voluptous aromas of berries and raisins and gutsy flavours of cherries, berries, raisins, mint, and charry oak with ripe, smooth tannins that make it pretty darn easy to drink. 2005 vintage. Synthetic closure. 14.5% alcohol.

Hmm, I'm all out of Malbec & no chance to get to the store today. Well it is going to be 95 degrees. Does extreme heat count as an hommage?

We're going to have a Riesling with crab cakes tonight, but don't think we have any from Argentina. Hope you Argentines, especially Alejandro, have a great day.

Nothing Argentinean, sorry - half a Hubert Veneau Pouilly-Fumé 2005 today (rest tomorrow). I might open a nice Oloroso today also - its warm enough for me to go out on my balcony and break my almost year long break on cigars. Oxidised wine and a cigar a dream pairing. :)

What about you send me six bottles of your Sauvignon Blanc and I send you six bottles of NZ Malbec. I think it would be interesting for people here to see how Argentina is going with NZ's No.1 grape variety, and for you and your colleagues/drinking buddies to see how NZ is going with Argentina's No. 1 grape.
