Lest we become too full of ourselves

by Howard » Fri May 25, 2007 12:03 am

Here are a couple of pictures from my abbreviated tour of the Finger Lakes region which ended at Niagara Falls. I'll try to post notes and a more detailed write up later but I couldn't resist sending these:Image

Nature has a good way of making us feel insignificant, doesn't it?

You know,....I use to live nearby as a kid and when people came to visit from other countries, we use to always take them there. I hated the place back then, the long car ride, the tacky stores up in the area, and the falls themselves were all too familiar.

Now that I no longer am in the area, I miss this place. Once thing that pictures can't convey is the sound of the roar that comes from the waterfall. It is loud, and the mist is cooling. In the winter it can be spectacular with the lights on the ice and the area's festivals. I also really enjoy Niagara-on-the-lake area and the wineries in the area and the drive to Toronto from there now seems so very short.....see what age will do to a person?

Nice picts!

Great pictures Howard and it was fun getting together for dinner.

It is loud, and the mist is cooling

Probably a 10 degree (F) difference between next to the river and just across the street on the Canadian side. It was really hot when we were there so the cooling mist was quite welcome. The noise was not as loud as I remember it when I was a kid but it definitely required upping the conversation a few decibels to hear it properly. I did not get to the Niagara on the Lake region - next time I think. I'd also love to do some fishing around the Finger Lakes region as well.
