WTN:
Bouchon at the Venetian is one of our favorite restaurants in Las Vegas, and it did itself proud recently. Janet had a excellent trout with green beans and a butter sauce; the Davids were delighted with their Veal Breast cooked in a rustic style; and only I was disappointed with a bready sort of French style Gnocchi, now the favorite dish at Bouchon in Las Vegas. [Who can account for taste?] The room itself is open and quite beautiful, and our dinners ran $60 for food and wine, quite reasonable for the quality. The breads and olive oils were superb, and the salads outstanding.
2004 Cotes-du-Rhone Villages Perrin & Fils Southern Rhone France. $47 Oof! -- $10 to $12 back home in New Jersey. Deep red color, medium hue, lots of fruit in the aroma and taste with berry, currant, mocha, minerals and a bit of tar, medium mouth feel, good acidity with very good balance, long interesting finish. A great food match with veal and trout, not so good with the French style Gnocchi. 3*+.
2004 Muscat Zind Humbrecht Herrenweg Alsace France. $8.00 a glass, a great bargain by Las Vegas, Bouchon standards. Pretty yellow color, clear hue, intense and rich aromas of citrus fruit with peach and floral notes, thick mouth feel, almost sticky, forward acidity which provided a lovely contrast to the sweetness [although it has only 3 grams residual sugar], long smoky finish. So good, I had a second glass instead of dessert. 4*.
