WTN: Paraduxx by Duckhorn 2000

by David Cohen » Sat May 19, 2007 11:58 pm

While I never would buy a bottle of wine, because the bottle is pretty and I collect corks, not labels, Paraduxx has the neatest bottles on the market IMHO. It is expensive and the combination is totally unusual.

I have a few of different years in the cellar. Tonight we went to a Southwestern US type restaurant so I was not sure what we were ordering and brought this as one of the choices.

Served with rack of lamb ( I know, not southwestern). Opening the cork finds a huge nose of cherry and smoke. The waitress, who was goo goo eyeing the bottle because of the label pushed her head back and smiled. I asked what was the matter. She said she did not expect such fragrance from the bottle. Anyway, it is the right time to drink this bottle. An interesting combination, that is not overly oaked and will satisfy most at supper time. Do not be scared away by the Zin. It really creates an interesting blend from this well known Cab and Merlot producer. I do think, like most wines from Napa, that it would be even better if it was a few sheckels cheaper.

David,
Like you, I find the Paraduxx a solid wine (actually it is liquid) but waaay waaay overpriced.
