Julia B. Sighting!

by SteveEdmunds » Sat May 19, 2007 1:18 pm

Tuesday night the 15th in Yellow Springs, Ohio, at the Winds! Got to meet her husband, who strikes me as a very fine fellow, and ate and drank wine in the company of maybe three dozen other folks. Whatta good time! :D

Sorry Steve, but our regular Sunday (4:00PM Eastern time) and Wednesday (9:30PM Eastern time) chats are not archived. But you are for sure invited to join with us at any and all gatherings.

BTW, I was wondering, going by your writings on your web page, the 2005 pinot grigio is the last to be called grigio, is that correct? And beginning with the 2006 it is labeled as pinot gris, is that correct? if so, can you elaborate as to why? I need to recover from wine expenditures of late, but I need also to get a case of the 2006. I will be presenting your 2005 to my wine club this evening, and Am certain that I will convert them to ESJ aficionados.

Steve,
Imagine my surprise to see this post!! Aren't you sweet to remember me after your whirlwind tour of the Mid-west?! That was a great evening, wasn't it?

I believe I said something about Steve Edmunds being such a nice, charming fellow, who happens to know how to make a hell of a good bottle of wine. Oh yes, and..

The food at The Winds was fabulous. My two favorite pairings were the Provencal Fish Soup (baked halibut in a thin tomato broth) served with the Tablas Creek Roussanne 04. The delicate fish flavor and the lush roussanne were singing quite the duet!

However, the heavy weight champion of the night was the seared lamb with "wild mushrooms', which someone at my table identified as Hen of the Woods;(Grifola frondosa..I looked that part up, no one at my table said THAT!) . This dish was paired with both the Rocks and Gravel 04, and the Shell and Bone 03. While the Rocks and Gravel is certainly no slouch, the Shell and Bone blew me away. I don't know if you heard it, Steve, but there was some serious "table pounding" going on from my side of the room. (Didn't you say you had the cigarettes at the ready?)

The only disappointment of the night was, the ominous 5 a.m. wake up call and a tired husband, dictated that I had to leave soon after Steve broke out his guitar and harmonica. Mama wasn't happy but a girl's got to do, what a girl's got to do.

Looking forward to your next visit.
Cheers!

Wow, that brings back memories. In the early '80s, my wife-to-be and I lived in Dayton. One of our favorite things to do was to drive to Yellow Springs to have dinner at the Winds and see a movie at the Little Arts Theater. Glad to see that 25 years later, the Winds is still going strong and that they were able to lure a visiting dignitary the likes of Steve Edmunds!

..... sounds almost luminary, Steve  ...... gotta try and meet you when I'm over ..... in between meeting and actually seeing, in person, Julia, Cynthia and all the other friends I've (hopefully) made through this forum.

Just to let you know, Steve, I am Auzzie and have yet to get to the States, but will do so sooner than later
Cheers,

David
