I think this is their first zinfandel. Right after opening my first impression was that I was under whelmed but maybe it was just in such a primary and closed stage. After about 30 minutes the wine started to come alive. Not an explosive nose but that is a positive. It is not distracting like so many Zins can be these days. Dark fruits, pepper and a touch of wood. Once the wine opened up I thought the front palate could fool some as an aggressive pinot. Interesting. I don’t think I have ever got that from a zin (although I have had it go the other way  ). Really tasty. Juicy, mouth covering fruit. Blackberries and cranberries with a line of citrusy acid running through it. This wine really grew on me. It was full throttle but it avoided the raisons and heat that I hate. Wow…I may start buying zin again. 90 pts.
