Quick French pronunciation help: Domaine de Pouy

by Robin Garr » Mon May 14, 2007 9:05 am

I'm writing up this perennial QPR favorite from Gascogne for today's Wine Advisor and realize that I'm not confident about the pronunciation of "Pouy."

Based on my own awkward French, I'd say "Poy", but maybe it's "Pooey" or something completely different?

I think you'd be close with 'pooey', or 'pwee'.

Even though it's "O" before "U" rather than the more usual (I think) other way around? That was the nuance that had me in doubt.

Just to further confuse things, I've used Poo; but you certainly make an argument for Poo-ee and Pwee.
