I picked up a bunch of these on what seemed like a genuine half-price offer a few months ago: around £3 a bottle. I've enjoyed several bottles already, before I started keeping notes, so I was looking forward to tasting this again with a more critical bent.
---------
Aroma of the wine is completely dominated by redcurrant and toast and is really rather enticing - I quite enjoying sniffing the wine between mouthfuls.
The first thing you notice on tasting the wine is slightly excessive tannin and acid - the initial flavour is sharp and it feels thick and furry on the teeth and tongue. This is a great shame because once you're past this the flavour is excellent - deep fruit notes of red and blackcurrant, cherry and damson beautifully balanced by earthier tones of tobacco and toast. A slight spice accompanies the wine throughout the mouthful, although the finish is short and it doesn't linger.

I note after writing this that the back of the label suggest it has "soft tannins" and "balancing acidity" which is either a lie or I'm drinking it too early/late. Sadly I suspect the latter as I don't recall the acid from the previous bottles, although the tannin always seemed a little prevalent. I understand the reserva from this particular producer is very good - I must track some down to try it.
