2001 Sebastiani Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

by Jon Peterson » Mon Apr 30, 2007 9:38 am

After an article in the Washington Post a few years ago, I found this in a shop near my office so I bought one. I tried it and went back to by the shop and bought them out. Yesterday's bottle, had with grilled filets, was my last and I am deeply saddened. What a wonderful bottle for $10 to $15. Cherry, perfect oak, and spice dominate the nose. Medium body that, immediately upon opening, was elegant and refined. Very nice fruit balanced with the acidity ending with a soft, mouth-filling finish that went on for a minute. I almost hated to swallow; it felt so good rolling around my tongue. Decanting not a bad idea for sediment reasons only as this wine really needed no time to breath - it was wonderful 10 seconds out of the bottle.

Jon, I agree, Sebastiani makes one of the best QPR pinot noirs available.
