Its the weekend, lets see what we are drinking!!

Busy with a Snow Goose festival but Amador Foothill Syrah is ready to go. The `01 vintage.

Finishishing off a 2005 Roland Tissier et Fils Sancerre (Sauvignon Blanc) tonight and then starting on a Duck Pond Pinor Noir from Willamette Valley, Oregon. Will visit a local wine shop this weekend to pick up five bottles of Spanish wines from the recent tasting I attended (three bottles of the summer quaffer made from 85% Moscato and 15% Gewurztraminer and one bottle each of two Crianzas to compare at home. Whichever I like better, I may then order more.

Hmm, well possibly a St Innocent Pinot Gris or Chardonnay (Anden Vnyd). And since Mark shipped my wine club selection early (to avoid the AZ heat that's coming, thank you Mark), I may have a St Innocent Pinot Noir to try.

Trying out a new restaurant: Barrington Country Bistro. We'll have a glass of starter white off the list followed by a BYO '99 Dujac Gevrey-Chambertin aux Combottes. A split of '91 Quinta do Noval will be open and waiting at home.

Sounds good, but don't you think it's early days for the Dujac? I've got some '99 Hubert Lignier Combottes, so if you do open it I will be very interested.

I haven't dipped into any of the '99s yet, but I have 5 of the Combottes and I am curious. At least that is my excuse. I have my fingers crossed.

I'll cross mine too. Please post your thoughts. My Lignier bottles have been gnawing at my brain for a while.

I've found that many of the '99s never closed down. May test a Morey St. Denis 1er Cru in the next couple weeks.

Trying a new restaurant tonight-55 Degree in Sacramento. I hope to bring a Ggrich Hills Cabernet Sauvignon, a 1996 Ch.Prieurie Lichine, and a 1999 Aida Petit Sirah or a Pinot Noir. Given our heat today, maybe the Pinot Noir would be batter.

No plans yet but the cold is almost gone now, so maybe something smart on saturday night.

How about a 2001 Chivite Gran Feudo? I would like to pair it with some kind of fish.

I was thinking about a bottle of 2003 Sea Smoke pinot noir.

Friday's over (see my notes) so, the second evenmt this weekend is a Syrah party/potluck at a friend's house. This is a pretty heavy wine drinking weekend! A wide variety-Joseph Swan, Australian, Napa, St. Joseph, and Rose of Syrah! Since it will be hot, I think there will be some crisp whites.

Killed an open week-old bottle of Velt.1 GrüVe, and ...

Cracked open a Cline Cellars 2005 Mourvèdre Rosé.

Both wines were pretty yummy with the pizza, although next time I think I'll not get the family size when dining alone. By the way, PM pizza is pretty crappy, i.e. maybe 1/2 notch about frozen.

As a birder you might be interested to hear that at the Snow Goose Festival today, we came across over 100 Hudsonian Godwits in one flooded field! That is a big group for such an uncommon shorebird. Here is a pic doing a search......

PM is definitely crappy. Would recommend going to the grocery store, getting a Boboli crust, some fresh mozz, some shroom, etc. over their pizza.

Of course, this does not negate the truism that any pizza is better than no pizza....

Those are my sentiments exactly. There's just something about a slab of dough with cheese and tomato sauce on it.

I made up for it though. My daughter called me on Sunday morning and expressed a craving for roast beef, mashed potatoes, creamed cauliflower, broccoli in oil and garlic, and corn. I overcame my personal inertia and cooked for her. Whenever she thinks about my late mom's cooking, she comes to me and asks me to recreate the moment. It's a hard act to follow.

How true. Saturday I had an absolute craving for a pizzeria pepperoni pizza. Normally we make our own (fancy) pizza, but I just wanted that "authentic" pepperoni pizza experience.

Ah, I had to wait for Sunday so I could answer this question in style.

Went to a tasting (actually, David Schildknecht invited a bunch of his Louisville buddies over to share some wine he was tasting for you-know-who), and we buzzed through four red 2005 Burgundies from Gerard Raphet (plus one wonderful 1993), one 2004 from Georges Mugneret, and then two of the most remarkable Champagnes I've ever encountered, from Alain Robert in Le Mesnil.

Definitely a memorable tasting. I could go with another slug of Raphet Clos de Beze for breakfast ...
