In response to the call for more tasting ntes on the forum, here are my notes on a tasting my London wine group had with dinner last week. Unfortunately because of extra people arriving unexpectedly (& corked bottles), measures were very small on most wines and didn't allow for second thoughts.
- 2005 Maison Sichel French Renaissance - France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Contrôlée
Clean fresh & dry white wine, good tang on finish. Nothing special. (79 pts.) - 2005 Château Tour Leognan Blanc - France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Oaky nose, lacking in mid-palate, sour warm finish (79 pts.) - 2001 Château Haut-Bergey Blanc - France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Distinctive nose, a little diesel, lemon and oak. Not enjoyable or a food frinedly wine, oily with a sour finish. (79 pts.) - 2001 Château Belair (Dubois-Challon) - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Beautiful bouquest, cedar, hint mint. Quite dry on front palate, elegant claret with apparent wood tannins coming through on a long finish. WOTN (90 pts.) - 1998 Château Plaisance (St. Émilion) - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Fading, not enough fruit, dry and tannic, past its best, (79 pts.) - 2000 Château Poujeaux - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Moulis en Médoc
First bottle was corked. Second bottle had bright fruit flavours and some crisp acids on end. (85 pts.) - 1993 Château Cantemerle - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
Thin thin thin and tannic, tastes of wood, borderline corked, sour finish. Horrible. Only 1 bottle so can'tcompare. (73 pts.) - 1983 Château Guiraud - France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Two bottles, and distinct bottle variation. 1) marmaladenose, quite sharp short finish. 2) marmalade nose, full sweet body. (87 pts.)
