Marionet Touraine Gamay?

by Jenise » Sat Apr 14, 2007 12:11 pm

The name may not be spelled quite right, but I'm looking for a gamay to put in a Loire Valley tasting next week, and the Clos Roche Blanche that I wanted isn't available instate. The 05 Marionet is--anyone have any experience?

I think the last time I had it was the 2002? Good. Not as good as CRB IMO but good.

I haven't tried the 05, but the 04 didn't disappoint.

Marionnet is considered by many the best producer of Gamay in Touraine. He has a range of interesting cuvées, including some named "vinifera" made from ungrafted vines. All his wines which have come my way, including his quite cheap basic cuvées, are fresh, mineral and fruity.

He makes good Sauvignon blanc and also Chenin Vinifera and Cot (Malbec) Vinifera, neither of which i have tasted.

Jay, Andrew, Tim:

Thanks for your help! I've ordered the Marionnet.
