Big ABC Event

Anyone in the Ann Arbor area this Sunday might be interested in what just might be the ultimate ABC event ever. Details are here:

Not only is chardonnay barred, but so is cabernet sauvignon, merlot, malbec, pinot noir, gamay, syrah, grenache, mourvedre, nebbiolo, sangiovese, zinfandel, and tempranillo, sauvignon blanc, chenin blanc, pinot gris, riesling, muscat, and gewurztraminer.

So what's left? Well, on the Red side there will be aglianico, barbera, blaufrankisch, bobal, bonarda, brachetto, carignan, carmenere, chambourcin, chancellor, charbono, cinsault, corvina, counoise, dolcetto, dornfelder, durif, freisa, gaglioppo, graciano, grolleau, kadarka, lagrein, lambrusco, lemberger, mavrodaphe, mencia, meunier, monica, montepulciano, negroamaro, nero d’avola, periquita, petit verdot, pinotage, primitivo, refosco, roriz, st. laurent, tannat, teroldego, tinta barroca, touriga francesa, touriga nacional, valdiguie, and zweigelt.

Whites will include albarino, aligote, arinto, arneis, assyrtiko, auxerrois, blanquette, bourboulenc, catarratto, clairette, colombard, cortese, falanghina, feteasca, fiano, furmint, garganega, godello, greco, grenache blanc, grillo, gros manseng, gruner veltliner, harslevelu, hondarrabi, huxelrebe, inzolia, kerner, leanyka, malvasia, marsanne, melon, mission, moschofilero, muller-thurgau, muscadelle, niagara, parellada, pedro ximenez, petit manseng, picpoul, pinot blanc, prosecco, ribolla, roussanne, roussette, scheurebe, semillon, silvaner, symphony, tocai friulano, torrontes, trebbiano, verdejo, verdicchio, vermentino, vernaccia, and viognier.

All wines will be among Gold and Double Gold winners at Tasters Guild International (Grand Rapids) or Consumers (Washington DC).

Actually, we don't have a theme for NiagaraCOOL yet, but whatever it is, ABV won't be it. We are open to suggestions.

Awww, no worries Bob! As quick as I am to pounce on perceived injustice against non-vinifera grapes and wines, my feelings don't get hurt that easily ... The greatest joy comes from knowing what you like, being aware of why you like it, and not worrying that some will look askance at it.

The best theme is great wine and fellowship! I wonder if we'll be in the 30's still! Perhaps a "Make your own Icewine, the natural way" theme will be in the air.
