2000 Fife Redhead Red, Mendocino - $14.29 (USD). This is a "Mediterranean" blend consisting of syrah, carignane, petite syrah, zinfandel, and charbono. 14.2% ABV.
This wine had a deep garnet red color. On the nose there was cherry, cigar, violets, and some bubble gum. On the palate there was cherry, banana, and raspberry. The finish was decent with some good acidity.
Fife's website claims that the style of this wine most resembles wines like Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Rioja, or Chianti...but honestly, I think it tasted closer to a Beaujolais. For the price I wasn't overly impressed with this wine. Maybe it's just not my style, but I have definitely enjoyed a Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Village for $8.00 as much as this wine. I also found that this wine was a bit hot to be a good pairing for food.
