WTN: 2001 Pfalz Kabinett

by Dale Williams » Tue Apr 10, 2007 10:27 am

Betsy's back to the Sonoma diet book, and made a nice spicy Szechuan
shrimp stirfry with Napa cabbage and snow peas. I opened the 2001 Bassermann-Jordan Deidesheimer Paradiesgarten Riesling Kabinett (Pfalz). A bit sweeter than I remembered, but still dry compared to most 2001 Pfalzs. Great acidity, but still with a broad creamy texture. Very full-bodied for Kabinett. David B. was right that some 2001s are emerging from their slumber. Peaches with citrus, a slatey note on finish. Really quite nice. A-/B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
